The Captain of Invalids plays a crucial role in preserving the military ethos, discipline, values and standards and culture at the Royal Hospital Chelsea. Leadership of a company of 70 Chelsea Pensioners is core to the role but it is more nuanced than command and control and is more achieved through influence, consensus, consent and good will.

Examples of some the knowledge, skills and experience, we seek include:

  • Previous Army Officer either DE or LE
  • Leadership role, such as Unit or Sub-Unit Command or Unit Welfare Officer
  • Understanding of welfare support requirements for veterans. 
  • Empathy and understanding of the needs of older people.
  • Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary environment including military and civilian workforce.
  • Knowledge and delivery of effective Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion management.

The role is challenging but very satisfying and you will not be alone in managing the its complexities as we have a very well developed multidisciplinary team with experts from a wide range of backgrounds who will be there to support you and help you develop into the role.

This is a full time and permanent role and the salary range is £45,000 - £46,600.  Accommodation is subject to availability
