Ratcliffe College seeks a dynamic individual with a background in the Armed Forces, a school Combined Cadet Force, or a youth organisation such as the Army Cadet Force, who is committed to fostering in young people characteristics such as courage, discipline and integrity alongside a love of adventure and the outdoors.

This role may suit a candidate with either a professional military background who is suited to working with young people of Primary School and Senior School age, or a candidate with a background working with young people who has an affinity with and genuine interest in the armed forces. Whilst the SSI role is well-established at Ratcliffe, the Head of Outdoor Experience role is a new post and will suit a candidate able to work collaboratively and strategically with different stakeholders.

The Combined Cadet Force at Ratcliffe College is flourishing, supported by regular Parades and activities within the Co-Curricular programme. Developing our provision of Outdoor Experience is key to ensuring that Ratcliffe is an inclusive school where all are catered for within our sports and activities programmes.

We particularly benefit from popular uptake of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award at Bronze, Silver and Gold levels, and a key element of this role will be supporting colleagues and young people in the pursuit of their awards.

There is also considerable scope for creativity according to the expertise of the successful candidate. On our campus we enjoy nearly 200 acres of Leicestershire
parkland and woodland where there are ample opportunities to develop outdoor programmes, such as, bushcraft and mountain biking. We also aspire to compete regionally and nationally in rifle shooting, and therefore any expertise in this field would be particularly welcomed.
