CAVALRY LUNCH CLUB REPORT

LUNCHEON MEETING ON 17th Oct 2024 - GUEST SPEAKER Sir Robin Knox-Johnston CBE DR

The Cavalry Lunch Club members and their guests had the uncommon pleasure of one of Britain’s most iconic yachting legends, Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, as its guest speaker, over an excellent lunch in the magnificent Library of The Reform Club.

Sir Robin indulged the assembled company with the remarkable account of how he embarked on the inconceivable idea at the time, of circumnavigating the planet non-stop solo.   Inconceivable because the sailing fraternity, the nautical press and the maritime aficionados said physically, mentally and logistically it could not be done; this was barely a year after Sir Francis Chichester was considered to have achieved the impossible, with one stop off.

While many would argue that Sir Robin stands amongst perhaps just ten of the nation's most legendary figures alive today, the reviews from members and their guests certainly endorsed the success of the day, and the ever popular formula of a revered speaker in their field, an excellent lunch in a great venue, and all for great value within just two hours.

SAVE the DATE for the next lunch, early in the new year, when our President, General Sir James Everard KCB CBE will be in the chair; noon, on Thursday, 27 February 2025 (just after half-term) in No.127, The Cavalry and Guards Club
