What a resounding talk Steve Covington treated a full dining room with. His; a remarkable depth of knowledge, initially formed all the way back to 1972, and an unparalleled familiarity and understanding of almost every protagonist on all sides of the spectrum over that time, whether US USSR/RF EU NATO UN and everything in between. As the only civilian in the mix, he has become the go-to advisor for all SACEURs at SHAPE over the past forty years, and continues to help educate direct and counsel over thirty countries in these most challenging of times.

His grasp of NATOs shortcomings and that of affiliated states, with the absence of definitive policies, has helped those guilty to rise to the need, now with a collective urgency, unquestionably with his input, although modesty and level of disclosure prevented him saying so.

Steve, who presently lives in Brussels, heroically took the Eurostar that morning and returned the same day, such was his commitment to come and talk to us, amid fitting in with his own agenda. While we can only thank him again for his considerable generosity, we would certainly welcome him, now as an honorary member, to return for an update towards the end of the present DC administration.

A Summer Cocktail Party on Thursday, 5th June from 6.30 until 9.30 is the CLC’s next event. This is to be held in Chapel Square, the forecourt of the Guards Chapel in Wellington Barracks SW1E 6HQ ~ W3Ws ‘mason.pipes.summer’.   Partners and guests of every conviction will be expected and most welcome.
