CAVALRY LUNCH CLUB REPORT

LUNCHEON MEETING ON 22ND FEBRUARY 2024 - GUEST SPEAKER JAMES HOLLAND

Once again this was a well-attended and much enjoyed gathering of members and their guests alike, who were fascinated by James Holland’s remarkable grasp of actual individuals’ part in history, when his considerable research enables him to bring historical events dramatically to life.

The extraordinary continuous participation and the relentless engagement of the Sherwood Rangers throughout the long haul from Normandy to Berlin, shall forever remain an enduring testament to the valour and resolve of the heroic Yeoman element of the British forces that broke Hitler.   James’s responses to the excellent and some very in-depth questions put to him after the talk, resonated with many.

The noted military historian, who founded and is chairman of the immensely popular annual Chalke Valley History Festival, and along with Al Murray conducts an amusing bi-weekly podcast exploring WWII in close up, most generously escaped his busy schedule to be our guest speaker at another convivial lunch, for which we all were most grateful.

As with all past guest speakers, now Honorary Members, we certainly look forward to welcoming him at future lunches. Reviews and messages of thanks from members, are always greatly appreciated, since besides endorsing the popular format, it directs the choice of future speakers, to find invigorating and thought-provoking individuals and their topics, every four months (Feb, Jun & Oct).

Furthermore, to rely solely on household names need not necessarily apply if the membership can depend on speakers eminent in their field of endeavour, are be every bit as fascinating and engaging.

Ensure Thursday noon 20 June, 2024 is in the diary for the next luncheon.   Be sure to bring a colleague friend wife or fellow member, as more the merrier.
