Once again this was a well-attended gathering of members and their guests alike, who came specifically to hear and absorb from Nick Perry the state of our military presence in the world.   As Chief Joint Operations, by all accounts Nick is the one individual who holds the high-octane oversight of every military action Great Britain currently is involved with.

Nick’s revelations, although guarded and as always with our luncheons, subject to the Chatham House Rule, certainly left his audience with some thought-provoking substance.   On the upside, it is clear that our military hierarchy are now gathering experience, technologies and new alliances across the global spectrum, to accelerate the transition of our defence capabilities into the new age, as budgets allow.

Nick amused the members of his regiment, RH / KRH, who came in support, to say that those in the room were responsible for teaching him all he needed to know about soldering.   We thank Nick for an excellent talk and for giving his generous time and commitment, knowing what a particular demanding schedule he had that day in particular, with the need to be in the air within an hour of leaving the building.   We shall look forward to welcoming him back as an honorary member, albeit already as a legitimate alumnus member.

Reviews and messages of thanks from members, are always greatly appreciated, since besides endorsing the popular format, it directs the choice of future speakers, to find invigorating and thought-provoking individuals and their topics, every four months (mid-February & mid-October, with a cocktail party mid-June). For the diary, Thursday noon 26 February, 2026 is the next luncheon.
