Major (Retired) Martyn Pocock

Congratulations to Maj (Retd) Martyn Pocock for being awarded the British Empire Medal in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List 2022.

Martyn retired last summer after nine years as Regimental Secretary to the 9th/12th Royal Lancers (Prince of Wales’s) and subsequently the Royal Lancers (Queen Elizabeths’ Own) upon amalgamation with the Queen’s Royal Lancers.  This prestigious honour was awarded for his services to the Army and Army Charities, and in particular for his representation of the Army’s Regimental Associations on the Confederation of Service Charities Executive Committee, where his considerable knowledge and experience has been put to excellent effect by contributing to the evolution of the Army Charities Strategy, thereby defining the Army’s approach to working with Armed Forces charities.

In addition, it recognises his quiet diplomatic approach to navigating both Royal Lancer’s antecedent regiments through the aforementioned amalgamation process, with the success of the Royal Lancers being a testament to his endeavours. Further, it recognises his Chairmanship of the Cavalry and Guards Club throughout the challenges of Covid-19, where he made the decision to keep the Club open for the exclusive use by key workers and officers supporting the Government’s team in Whitehall.  This attitude was warmly endorsed by the wider membership thanks to his leadership and desire to do the right thing.
