Running for the Royal Armoured Corps Memorial Trust

A charity endurance event that two members of the RAC serving in the Training Establishment up at Catterick are undertaking in January

On 12th January 2025 a team of four permanent staff from the recruit Training Battalion based at Catterick Garrison in Yorkshire are undertaking a charity endurance running event known as the David Goggins 4x4x48 Challenge. Named after the famous American endurance athlete, it requires each member of the team to complete a 4 mile run, every 4 hours, for 48 hours, with the individual team members setting off at hourly intervals throughout the two days and nights.

The team consists of two Riflemen, one Royal Lancer and one King’s Royal Hussar, namely Sgt Sam Bateman and Corporal Ward respectively. They have generously offered to donate their 50% share of the funds raised to the Royal Armoured Corps Memorial Fund, to honour the memory of those armoured corps soldiers who have lost their lives in the service of their country.

The Trust was established in the aftermath of the Second World War. However the role of the Trust remains as relevant and important today as it ever was. Its objectives remain unchanged to this day. They are:

  • To help maintain the military efficiency and esprit de corps of the Royal Armoured Corps
  • To support all members of the Royal Armoured Corps, both serving and retired, and their families, when in time of need
  • To honour the memory of all those members of the Royal Armoured Corps who have died in the service of their country

All donations to support Sgt Bateman’s and Cpl Ward’s efforts will be used to help achieve these worthy goals. This year alone, over 40 grants have been awarded to veterans and soldiers’ families in need, demonstrating the scale of the challenges that the Trust continues to face.

Sam Bateman’s and Cpl Ward’s Just Giving page can be found at   https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/itcgoggins?utm_term=xJ3mwA7j9

Any contribution, large or small, will be greatly appreciated and used wisely for the benefit of RAC veterans, serving soldiers and their families. Please do support Sam Bateman and Cpl Ward in their efforts, it will really help them in the small hours of the morning to know the difference they will be making to peoples’ lives.
