"Cavalry Lunch Club Comment”

Luncheon Meeting on 23 February 2023 - Guest speaker Tom Bradby

A much enjoyed event, thanks to the generous commitment of Tom Bradby, our very engaging guest speaker, which drew a decent turnout, although if several had not to had to back out shortly beforehand with other higher priorities, it would have been nigh a full house.

Tom captivated the room, without notes, regaling his time from his surreal experiences in NI as a young journalist in casual clothes on the Falls Road when army friends were armed to the teeth, through his wordly travels as a correspondent, to why every word he now releases as a newscaster has to be vetted before going on air.   Parallel to Tom’s world as a seasoned journalist is his growing repertoire of plays, novels and screenwriting, which the awards and his principled approach to life indicate that he may well become one of Britain’s most respected members of his profession.

The distilled well-structured procedure that the club’s luncheon programme has now become, together with the key aspect of an engrossing speaker, appears to be a winning format.    The intention of the Events Secretary going forward, together with the admirable industry of the Membership Secretary, is for the growing membership of the Cavalry Lunch Club always to show its appreciation to our guest speakers with the courtesy of a full house; to that end, all are called upon to corral colleagues and friends to the lunches.

The next luncheon is on Thursday 8 June.   All luncheons, looking forward on an eighteen-month rolling programme, are posted on the CLC page of the RAC Alumni website, with the speakers’ bio's added once approved by them or their agent, along with increasing information as the date draws nearer.
